What is a Virus?
A Virus is a destructive program that installs itself onto your computer. The damage they cause can range from the virus just distributing itself to everyone’s email address in your Email Clients Address box to corrupting vital files on your computer causing you to be unable to use it.

How did I get a Virus?
Viruses can be sent as Email Attachments and can also be distributed directly to your computer when you are browsing the Internet.

How do I detect and remove a Virus?
To detect and remove viruses, which may be present, we recommend running a free online virus scanner such as:

  • Panda ActiveScan (free)
  • Symantec's Virus Detection (free)
  • Micro's HouseCall (free)
  • McAfee Security's FreeScan (free)

Customers are then recommended to install Anti-virus software or update their current software to prevent further infections from occurring.

How can I stop my computer from being infected by a virus?
Although we scan all Emails that are sent to your TPG Email Address in an attempt to eliminate any viruses being sent to you, we still recommend that all clients install Anti Virus Software on their Computers and update this software regularly. Some Antivirus Software is free to trial and other software needs to be purchased. As everyone's needs are different we do not recommend just one brand of software however we do suggest utilising any free trial before you purchase a package. Below are a few links to some well known Anti Virus Software websites:

  • http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com (free for all Windows operating system users)
  • http://www.trendmicro.com.au (trial for free for all users)
  • http://www.pandasoftware.com (trial for free for all users)
  • http://www.symantec.com/index.htm (trial for free for home and SOHO users)

Please feel free to investigate any other Anti Virus Software that is available.

You may even find that your Operating System, such as Windows XP, has Anti Virus Software already built in. Your Operating System Manual will be able to confirm the presence of this software.

We also strongly advise that you do not open any email attachments that are suspicious or unanticipated.
