What is IPTV?

(Internet Protocol Television) – IPTV describes a system where a digital television service is delivered to subscribing consumers using the Internet Protocol over a broadband connection.

What is the picture quality of TPG IPTV like?

The TPG IPTV service is delivering high quality standard definition channels. The quality is far superior to other sources of streaming video from the Internet.

Can I get IPTV?

TPG IPTV is available to customers who are connected to a TPG IPTV enabled exchange, and who are experiencing a download speed of greater than 3.5Mb. To find out more, please visit the TPG IPTV website at http://www.tpg.com.au/iptv

How do I sign up for ADSL2+?

Existing ADSL customers may need to cancel their existing ADSL service before registering for TPG ADSL2+. Please check with TPG Customer Service.

Will the IPTV picture quality degrade the further the customer is from the exchange?

Yes, connection speed decreases the further you are located from the exchange. If the connection speed decreases to less than 3.5Mbps, then the IPTV picture will no longer be viewable. However, the quality of the IPTV picture will not be effected by any downloads or other network activity on your connection while watching IPTV.

What channels are available?

The full channel listing is available at the TPG IPTV website at http://www.tpg.com.au/iptv. Additional channels both free and subscription based will be added to our line up shortly.

Will I need any specific equipment for IPTV?

TPG recommends an ADSL 2+ modem that supports multiple PVC's and IGMP proxy.
You can now purchase a TPG IPTV pre configured modem during the IPTV registration or by calling 13 14 23.
The following are modems/routers we supply or have supplied that are IPTV compatible:

  • D-Link DSL502T
  • D-Link DSL504T
  • D-Link DSLG604T
  • Netcomm NB1
  • Netcomm NB5
  • Netcomm NB5+4
  • Netcomm NB5+4W - must use via the ethernet port
  • Netcomm NB9W
  • Dynalink 1320

It is also recommended that your computer system has a minimum of a Pentium 4 2Ghz CPU (or equivalent) with 128Mb RAM. Currently, the TPG IPTV service can not be transmitted via a wireless connection - if you have a modem/router with wireless capabilities you must connect directly via the Ethernet port rather than a wireless connection. This limitation is being addressed in later versions of this service.

Will IPTV work on an older ADSL version 1 modem?

If your ADSL/ADSL 2/ADSL2+ modem supports Multiple PVC's then you should be able to use for TPG IPTV. Support for IGMP proxy is also desired.

Will IPTV work on Apple Mac Computer?

Yes, TPG IPTV will work on both PC's and Apple Mac systems. It should also work on other operating systems like Linux.

Will I need to reconfigure my modem/router for IPTV?

Yes - Your modem/router configuration will need to be updated in order to enable TPG IPTV. Instructions are provided during the registration process. If you require assistance with this, please contact the TPG Technical Support on 13 14 23.

How do I watch TPG IPTV?

Once you have registered and configured your modem, you can begin viewing the TPG IPTV service. Please visit the TPG IPTV website at http://www.tpg.com.au/iptv, then log in with your username and password.

How do I change channel?

You can change channel on the TPG IPTV viewer page by simply clicking on the channel you wish to view. Channels are located at the right of the viewer page.

How do I control the volume?

Volume can be adjusted by clicking on either the -/+ volume buttons which are located at the bottom of the viewer page.
The volume can also be increased/decreased by changing your volume control settings within your operating system.
This is generally located on the task bar. You can also access this through the control panel under my computer.

Can I watch this on my TV?

TPG IPTV is available for viewing on your PC – if your notebook/PC has an S Video connection you may connect your PC/Notebook to your TV.

Do I need to download any software?

You will need to install a software for viewing. This is offered for download during the registration process, and full instructions are provided.

Does this count to my monthly download limit?

No – TPG IPTV will not be included in your monthly download limits.

How do I select full-screen mode?

To toggle between the standard viewer and full screen, simply double click on the video image. There is also a fullscreen button on the viewer page control pannel. Please note that the TPG IPTV service is currently based on a standard definition television resolution, which has a lower resolution than most modern displays/screens. This means that when viewing in full-screen mode, the picture may appear pixilated when expanding to the large size of the display/screen.
